Olga Theresa “Dee” Bendinelli was born in Marshfield, OR to Domenico and Ida D’Ambrosio, who came from the Chieti region of Italy. The youngest of four children, Dee graduated from Marshfield High School and received her BS in Nursing from the University of Portland St. Vincent School of Nursing. Following graduation, she taught at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Astoria before joining the Army Nurse Corps during WWII. Stationed first in California, she then served for two years in Japan as a 1st Lieutenant working at various Army hospitals.

Following the war, she was a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, where she met her future husband, Henry Bendinelli. She and Henry were married August 18, 1951, and moved to Mt. Scott where they raised four children. In 1973 Dee re-activated her RN license and spent 13 years as an ER nurse at Woodland Park Hospital before retiring in 1987. Dee was a strong woman with plenty of common sense, and although she could sometimes appear stern, she had a warm heart and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed classical music, reading (especially history), and was an excellent cook who always had homemade treats in the house for her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dee was predeceased by her husband, parents, and three siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Bendinelli, son Mark Bendinelli (Annette), daughters Ann Maslen (Bill) and Louise Roup (Rolly), and six grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 20, at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, followed by a reception at Calaroga Terrace, where Dee lived for the past five years. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Portland School of Nursing Fund or the Oregon Historical Society.
